  • High School Lead Teacher for Fall 2025

    Star Academy, a non-profit, non-public school, located in San Rafael, CA, serving students with learning differences in grades 3-post-secondary, is seeking a Full-Time, High School Lead Teacher for Fall 2025.  This teacher would be leading a high school special day class of up to 9 students with moderate learning differences.  This teacher will lead functional academics in ELA, Math and Social Studies as well as support instruction with functional living skills (cooking, budgeting, travel training and pre-vocational skills). The teaching team in this classroom includes assistant teachers and a team of specialists with expertise in Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, Behavior, Assistive technology, and Transition/Living Skills.

    Candidates must have the following qualifications: 
    • Clear California Mild/Moderate Disabilities Credential required and must meet CTC requirements for working with students on the Autism Spectrum.  
    • Undergraduate college degree. 
    • Experience working with students with learning differences in an educational setting. 
    • Experience with IEP documents and the IEP process 
    • Strong classroom management skills. 
    • Strong communication skills. 
     
    Duties of this teacher ill include but may not be limited to: 
    • Writing evidence-based IEPs.  
    • Participation in IEP team meetings 
    • Supervision of Assistant Teacher regarding classroom responsibilities, student monitoring and lesson plan implementation. 
    • Planning, preparing and delivering instructional materials that facilitate a positive and effective learning experience. 
    • Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet varying student needs and interests. 
    • Collaborating with specialists and other teachers to provide students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate while practicing a variety of academic and social skills. 
    • Supervising students during snack break, recess, lunch and transitions. 
    • Participating in full staff and team meetings
  • Post-High School Lead Teacher for Fall 2025

    Star Academy, a non-profit, non-public school, located in San Rafael, CA, serving students with learning differences in grades 3-post-secondary, is seeking a Full Time Lead Teacher for our Post High School program.  Star Academy’s mission is to help students with complex learning differences experience academic success through a multisensory approach. 
     
    Our students face mild to moderate learning challenges such as: dyslexia, executive functioning deficits, dyscalculia, auditory processing, dysgraphia, ADHD and Autism. Post high school students all benefit from Star’s calm, nurturing, and supportive environment, which is conducive to learning. Students in the post high school setting attend classes at the College of Marin, receive instruction in functional academics, engage in work experience in the community and cultivate independent living skills through class and community related activities.  
     
    We are seeking a patient, kind and thoughtful educator to work with a team of assistant teachers and specialists in a Post High School setting. Candidates will have the following qualifications: 
    • Teaching credential: the ideal candidate will have a clear California Mild/Moderate Disabilities credential with the Autism authorization. We will also accept a General Education, multi-subject teaching credential.  
    • Two years of experience working with High School Transition or Post High School students with learning differences in an educational setting is strongly preferred. 
    • Knowledge of Individualized Transition Plans, executive functioning, life skills, and assistive technology strategies and tools.  
    • Strong classroom management skills. 
    • Strong communication skills.  
    Duties will include but may not be limited to: 
    • Case management of students with IEPs and privately funded students. 
    • Supervision of Assistant Teachers regarding daily responsibilities, student monitoring and lesson plan implementation. 
    • Planning, preparing and delivering instructional materials that facilitate a positive and effective learning experience. 
    • Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet varying student needs and interests. 
    • Collaborating with specialists to give students opportunities to observe, question and investigate while practicing various academic and social skills. 
    • Supervising students at the College of Marin and PHS campus during snack break, lunch and transitions. 
    • Participating in full staff and team meetings. 
  • Speech-Language Pathologist

    We are seeking a patient, kind and thoughtful clinician to work in collaboration with
    other specialists and classroom teachers. Candidates must have the following
    qualifications:
    • Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
    • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) issued by the American
    Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA)
    • Valid California Speech-Language Hearing license issued by the Department
    of Consumer Affairs- California Speech Language Pathology and Audiology
    Dispensers Board
    • Current Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential or Clear Speech Language
    Pathology Services Credential issued by the California Commission on
    Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
    • Experience in a school-based setting
    Desired Skills:
    • Experience working with students with learning differences, social-cognitive
    challenges and executive function deficits in grades 3-Post High School
    • Knowledge of current evidenced based practices in Speech Language
    Pathology
    • Extensive knowledge of assessment tools and report writing
    • Experience facilitating social groups and extensive knowledge of Social
    Thinking curriculum/concepts
    • Experience with individual, small group and classroom-based service
    delivery models
    • Experience being part of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) team and
    familiarity with IEP procedures
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills• Strong record keeping and organizational skills
